6 Top Reasons to Make Your Own Fresh Juice at Home
Fruit juice gets a bad wrap from many health gurus who claim that it contains too much sugar.
But the truth is, consuming 'real' fruit juice regularly - that you prepare yourself at home without additives or heat pressure pasteurisation - is one of the BEST things you can do for your health!
Most pre-packaged fruit juices you'll find on the supermarket shelf have been high temperature pasteurised, destroying much of the nutrients, OR they're laced with preservatives to give them a longer shelf life.
All of these products beat the pants off "chemically-laced" and "food-coloured" soft drinks and energy drinks, but they're definitely not the best types of juices for you to consume.
Fruit juices prepared at your local juice bar and cafe, are generally not the best way to go either.
Typically, these are prepared using a "centrifugal juicers" that rely on rapid "speed" and "heat" to pulverise the produce. The problem is that this process also extracts much of the nutrients and "oxidises" the juice, removing much of its "life force".
The absolute best way to enjoy and benefit from fresh fruit and vegetable juices, is to make them yourself at home, using a cold-press juice machine.
This ensures a "living juice", that's full of enzymes to cleanse your body and flood your cells with nutrients.
And the best part is, with "cold-pressing", you can prepare a few days worth of juice at a time in advance. Simply store it in air tight glass jars in the refrigerator and it'll keep beautifully fresh for up to 72 hours!
Keep reading to find out why making your own fruit juice is the way to go, hands down.
1. "Living" Juice
If you have an old school centrifugal juicer, you can still benefit from preparing your own juice at home. Just be sure to drink the juice straight away because the longer you leave it sit, the more it will oxidise and be devoid of benefit to your health.
On the other hand, when you "cold press" your fruits and vegetables, you're guaranteed a living juice that is delicious and loaded with retained nutrients and vital enzymes which is both detoxifying and nourishing.
This is really the whole reason for drinking fresh juice in the first place, so why compromise on quality if you don't have to?!
The best part about making your own juice is that you get to control exactly what goes in it—and by extension, into your body.
You choose the quality of your ingredients, you get to determine it's freshness and shelf life and then batch it and clean it yourself before juicing.
When it comes to fresh juicing, this is called CONTROL.

2. Wider Variety
When you’re in control of making your own juices, you get to decide the juice of the day—instead of drinking the same juice day in and day out because you bought multiples. You can mix and match a huge variety of fruits and vegetables, explore new blends, and experiment to your heart’s content.
For example you can put together a Beetroot based blend like CABALA - Carrots, Apples, Beetroot & Lemons;
A Citrus Blend - Red Grapefruit, Orange & Ginger
A Green Blend - Apple, Spinach, Cucumber, Celery, Lime & Mint
This selection makes drinking juice so much more interesting and exciting: by involving yourself in the juice-making process, you’re more engaged in how it turns out, in perfecting the taste and texture, and in your health.
When you’re buying store-bought juices, there simply isn’t a ton of variety. There’s just not enough shelf/fridge space for it.
Eventually, you’ll get tired of the same old juices, and unless you start making your own, you’ll probably get tired of drinking juice at all.
Making your own juice helps you stay on a healthy track while getting a nice variety of vitamins and minerals, without getting tired of drinking it.
3. Help for Your Digestive System
Every single day, your digestive system is working hard for you. It’s breaking down food, processing nutrients and toxins alike, and moving efficiently to keep up with your food intake.
Juicing at home, allows you to start your day with something super nutritious that places little to no weight on your digestive system at a time when it needs to rest - in the morning.
In fact, it's great to do the odd day of fasting for the entire day.
Start with the higher fruit-based juices in the morning since they are the most "cleansing" and then move on to the more vegetable and root-based juices in the after noon as these are more of the "blood builders.
This break from solid food can actually help you prevent and overcome sickness, heal an ailment, and improve your overall digestive function.
A juice fast is incredibly beneficial to your overall health, and it can be as easy as one day a week or a few days at once every few months. Even just incorporating a healthy juice into one meal a day can help give your digestive system a little break and time to heal. By making your own juice, you’ve taken a step out of the digestive process and it makes it easier for your body to absorb even more nutrients than it would otherwise.
You can do it for 1 day a week or for multiple days with every change of seasons - as was the ancient wisdom - to help cleanse, heal and keep the immune system strong.
Drinking different colours of living juices will help heal ALL of your body's systems.
When the body begins to consume the 'liquid light crystals' by way of fresh fruit and vegetable juices and eliminates solid food, the crystals will help to cleanse your digestive system. The liquid crystals act as a strong solvent in the tubes of the body helping to dissolve the obstructions which interfere with smooth functioning.
After a day or two on fresh juices, when you feel like eating again, a great way to continue is to snack on Pulse and drink water.
This way you'll feel satiated and you'll continue to cleanse and nourish your body and brain as well as provide fantastic restorative benefits for your digestive system.

4. NO Preservatives or Additives
What’s going into your juice is definitely important, but so is what’s staying out.
Store-bought juices are chock full of preservatives, added sugar and pasteurised to the point that most nutrients and vitamins are "boiled" off.
And centrifugal-made juices need to be drank immediately to get the benefit since the living enzymes have been largely destroyed at the point of juicing. The longer the juice sits, the less life-force it retains.
While store-bought juice is still better than soda, it’s honestly not that much better: the sugar content is alarmingly similar, they both have high levels of additives and preservatives, and they both will send your blood sugar spiking only to crash quickly after.
By making your own juice, you know what you’re putting in and you’re so much more likely to not add anything unhealthy. Juice tastes so much better and fresher without all the disease-causing chemicals!

5. More Cost-Efficient and Convenient
Making your own juice might seem expensive, but it’s actually the more cost-efficient option. It's also very convenient if you can get into the habit of preparing it in batches, a few days worth at a time (e.g. prep is Sunday afternoon to last you Monday through Wednesday!)
When you strategically buy your juice ingredients, each serving should cost less than what you’d pay for them individually at the store. It might take a little bit of planning, but it’s well worth the effort.
Plan out your juices in advance so that you use up every bit of produce and try to shop for fruits and vegetables that are in season as much as possible (without sacrificing too much variety in your juices!).
Making your own juice is also a great way to use up any leftover produce in the fridge at the end of the day, to not let anything go to waste, save money, and be more environmentally conscious all at once. By using reusable containers like mason jars to store and drink your juice out of, you’re also helping to keep more plastic out of the landfills.
6. Better Taste
One thing is absolutely for sure; you simply can’t beat the freshness and taste of homemade juice, particularly when it's made using a cold-pressed juicer.
Nothing is better than gathering your own produce from the best local sources, and then batching, preparing and bottling your own blends yourself.
Some health food stores and boutique cafes these days do offer cold-pressed, ready made juice. Just be sure to check the use-by date before you purchase it to ensure it's not about to expire. Remember, it will generally only last 72 hours after bottling.
The best part is that it actually doesn’t take that long to do, and you get to read the benefits of fresh juice for the next few days. With modern juicers, the work is basically done for you so in a matter of minutes you can have homemade juice that not only tastes incredible, but you have the satisfaction of having made something healthy and nutritious yourself.
Which type of Juicer is best for home?
Using a cold-press juicer is the best way to go because the slow extraction method does not oxidise and pound the life out of the pulp, ensuring that the living enzymes remain intact when you go to drink it.
There are several options on the market, but one of the best is the Kuvings Elite C7000 Cold Pressed Professional Juicer.
