Immune System: Top Immunity Boosting Foods
Whether it’s a simple case of the sniffles or something more sinister, catching the flu is never a pleasant experience.
As you become sick, your body is essentially ‘cleaning house’ and during this process the best thing to do is support it during the cleansing process.
But before I get too off track, let’s take a step back…
I often get asked about the different remedies that people can use to ward off any illness as we move into the ‘flu season’.
Although so many foods contain incredible nutrients that fuel your body every day, there are certain foods that can actually help build your immune system.
Why not use what mother nature supplies to help protect you against any illness that lingers around winter time?
One of my favourites is GINGER.
Ginger is an incredible immune booster and is one of mother nature's most powerful "antioxidants" (this is the term today's academics use).
It helps to boost immune function and stop cells being damaged so it’s harder to get sick in the first place. It also has the added advantage of stimulating digestion, bowel function and helps to relieve bloating, cramping and nausea!
GARLIC is also another immune system warrior with too many healthy benefits to mention.
It protects the body from infections and illness. It is actually great for cardiac health too and can assist to lower blood pressure.
And the most common potent immune boosting force on earth?...
Citrus fruits, particularly Oranges are sadly one of those foods that frequently get slammed in the media for being too high in sugar. It's pure BS!
Fruits such as oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, lemons and limes are jam-packed with vitamin C which as we all know is dynamic in helping to maintain the body’s defences and the clearing out of bacterial infections.
Just make sure that you eat the orange itself OR freshly squeeze the oranges. Do not buy citrus juice that contains preservatives of any kind!
And two more final important dietary tips leading into and during the colder months...
Eat plenty of TUBERS (root veges that grow underneath the ground) like Potatoes, Pumpkin, Onions, Carrots, Parsnips etc.
These foods are created by mother earth to strengthen the human body, particularly during the colder months when the higher water content foods go out of season and our body's crave higher density, cooked food.
Finally, remember that nature-made SALT is your greatest friend in avoiding and overcoming infection, inflammation and viral overwhelm in your body. Make sure you always add quality, unrefined Salt to your food each day like Celtic Sea Salt, Himalayan Salt or even my Ra See-Salt which contains medicinal gold.
Remember, to always buy foods in their natural state or uncooked form and prepare them yourself wherever possible. That way, you'll be keeping your 'house' as clean as possible, minimising the build up of toxic overwhelm and boosting your immune system in preparation for when the flu season arrives.
